Misscara, I thought you were more familiar with the insides of pubs than the outsides.

Rather a sweet, 1950-ish painting I thought.

Anyone else have a picture?

Really like this thread - haven't a clue about some of photos or comments...but know that I will be looking for that red brick and all the other stuff I've just discovered on the next 4 pages!
Nearly right! It's the building where Sainsbury's is now (used to be Woody's). It was once the home of George Osborne Barratt, founder of the confectionery company that made Liquorice Allsorts, Aniseed Balls, Jelly Babies, Dolly Mixtures, and Sherbet Fountain. The building is now little Sainsbury's at the top of Stroud Green Road.

According to this website George Barratt lived at number 175 in the 1880s. The firm he started produced sweets in Wood Green until the 1970s. It's now part of Cadbury's. (The old Chocolate Factory in Wood Green has now got a restaurant and arts centre and stuff in it.)

Apparently old George Barratt was a good employer and built a little model village in Wood Green for his employees - some of the houses are still there.

loving this thread - really interesting. I've been taking a lot more interest in local ... what would you call it, trivia? ... lately after reading up on the history of Parkland Walk. and the green man! and then discovering that Stephen King wrote a short story inspired by said walk/green man called 'Crouch End'. keep em coming, krappyrubsnif!
