Arnos Grove has Vrasakis on Middleton Rd which do takeaway kebabs exactly like the ones I had in Cyprus in the fifties. Top recommendation!

So, the three weeks are up - hands up who thinks it'll be reopening today?

(Although don't businesses usually mention their reopening date on such signs? - cough)
I finally checked out the poster in the window - it will reopen on 10 September as "Oasis", with an initial opening offer of £9.95 for their Indian buffet.
Misery guts, thought you were going back to your homeland?
They missed a trick by not reviving the great ledgand of Chapter One bar , but this menu does sound good.

I find it incredible they are having a refurbish. The inside has been fairly stripped back.

They must have had sits from the original incarnation that were never in sat on, let alone requiring to be refurbed!

Must be something dodgy going on.
I have just had two fliers through the door (well, 8 actually but only two varieties).

1. Oasis Indian Buffet, Grand Opening, 10th September. 50% off. Bring your own alcohol. 143 Stroud Green Road.

2. World Kitchen. Bangladesh and Indian Cuisine. 10% discount on collection. Bring your own alcohol. 143 Stroud Green Road.

False start upon false start? Its as if they are trying to fail...

Isn't it slightly unfair to assume that a false start must mean something dodgy is going on?

Could it not simply be that the chappy, on seeing the range of eateries Stroud Green Road offers, thought "I'm having some of that" and misguidedly opened a one-size-fits-nobody international buffet?

Presumably there's a decent chunk of lease remaining, so he realises his mistakes and has another try with a bit more focus. If that sinks too, then so be it... but that's not the same as being up to no good in the first place, is it?
A complete refurb and rebrand is rather extravagant for a failing business - we'd have expected them to try and make World Cuisine work (as Sugar Lounge tried, towards the end), rather than incurring the losses of closing for two months and refurbing the place. And it's not like there are any guarantees that the Indian buffet will be an immediate success and recoup all their losses...
Maybe the owner read this thread and saw the comments about the decor, married it in with the realisation that they weren't attracting any customers and decided to go for the total revamp option.

Perhaps the first crack was just an idea badly executed.

I read something a while back saying that actually these all kinds of cuisine buffets are a bit of a successful trend but the owner of one interviewed said he didn't think the concept would work as well in London - more a provincial winner.

Can't find the exact article but did find this.

Luke Johnson's investment vehicle bought into this one and he knows a fair bit about restaurants.
