I think the Overground takes over the operation of routes running from Liverpool
Street station to Enfield Town, Cheshunt (via Seven Sisters) and Chingford, as well as services between Romford and Upminster around the start of June
DiamondGeezer today provides and excellent overview of the latest Crossrail 2 consultation. Stacks of details. The big question for our area is whether the northern route goes via Turnpike Lane and Ally Pally, or via Wood Green. Significant pros and cons to both.

http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/crossrail-2.html

The worksites and new station buildings largely seem to be targetted so as to compel the demolition of some of the ugliest buildings in London (like the RBS and Iceland at Angel). Bonus.
So, the evening & weekend service to Moorgate began at the weekend. Which is ace. What is less ace is that only a fraction of the trains actually ran due to a shortage of drivers.

DiamondGeezer covered this yesterday. Today he looks at the different Northern City Line stations which, as we know, are desperately in need of a refurb.

From Finsbury Park there will still be some trains to KX (longer distance ones, e.g. from Cambridge), but far fewer. From Harringay et al you will need to skip across the platform at Highbury & Islington.
On a weekend evening it's only 30mins maximum on the bus from FP to Moorgate, about 20mins to Old St. Wouldn't consider getting the train for that short a distance at weekends. |)
Great addition.

It's great to be able to go to old street very quickly in the weekend!

So will we wait 'till 2018 to see trains from FP ro London Bridge?

Sad, but also relieved. Like when the suffering of a elderly relative is finally over.

It seems like the new stock won't have longitudinal seating like the London Overground trains, which surprises me. Still, wider corridors and walk-through carriages.

Of all the features to list about the new trains, what's the merit of listing the following one?

Power points throughout

@poxy - there's a story there.

These new trains are a smaller version (6 carriages, rather than 8 or 12) of the ones being introduced from Spring 2016 on the Brighton-Bedford (and ultimately Cambridge via Finsbury Park) Thameslink routes. The spec for those trains was done years and years ago, at a time when there was less call for plugs - so they won't have any. This has caused some controversy.

Consequently they will be on the Moorgate route trains, even though they will be rather less useful there I should think.

Ah, so these power points ARE available for public use, unlike the ones mentioned in this story?
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/13/man-arrested-charging-iphone-london-overground-train

One of my absolute bugbears is people expecting to be able to plug in their various gadgets in our shop. Everything we plug in has to be PAT tested for insurance purposes but people expect that they can plug in any old bit of tat, without asking and fleece off our electricity. Is it not enough to provide free Wifi?

Honestly, on the occasions I walk through the shop and see some entitled idiot with their phone or somesuch plugged into our sockets it fills me with fury.

Someone had even unplugged the lights on one of my beautiful Christmas trees to plug in their bloody laptop today. They got short shrift I can tell you. If your gadget is so vital that you simply cannot live without it charge it properly at home and bring one of those emergency Juicebox things.
