• Even without the paint.
  • Hopefully this will get approved so we can get to barking riverside easily from Crouch Hill http://www.railtechnologymagazine.com/Rail-News/tfl-seeks-cash-approval-for-barking-extension
  • Why would we want to get to Barking Riverside quickly?
  •
I've been. It's not a place you'd ever want to get to, quickly or otherwise. Unless you live there and probably not even then.

  •
It seems to be planned that there will be around 20,000 people moving there

http://barkingriverside.co.uk/

;

  • I fear so.

I'm going to call it the Cromwell Line from now on.

  • Lovely colour. I won't bore you all (again), with my views on Her Majesty but I'm delighted about this. Softens the blow of the utter devastion of St Giles and the unholy mess and disruption of one of my old favourite parts of town over the past few years.
  • I do like the colour, I'll give it that.
  • I always thought it was a joke that it would be called the Elizabeth line. Beggars belief to me.

I don't like it.
• Can you imagine what they would call crossrail 2? The Charlie Line. I think it would be loved by bankers and dealers
  • Why not just Crossrail? Simple, to the point and not controversial. Elizabeth is just cringeworthy.

  • At least the Queen doesn't dissolve Parliament whenever she disagrees with it, unlike the hypocrite Cromwell. She's also been pretty good about keeping genocide of the Irish to a minimum.

  • Can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs. Longer trains, higher frequency and quicker journey times will be a benefit for decades to come.
  • In the meantime the C11 does Gospel Oak to Archway. Not too far to walk home from there.

Or add on the 210, from the shared stop at the bottom of Highgate Hill, to the last stop, outside Gadz. Perfect. I travel that way to and from Belize Park 3 or 4 times a week, to my beloved University of the 3rd Age (anyone 60+out there? You should give it a try). Occasionally by train, in the past, Hampstead Heath - Gospel Oak - Childs Hill, which is quicker, but I like buses, and am not usually I
  • (Sorry - technical hitch; doing sg.org is murder, on a tablet)

... in a hurry.

  • @N19 I know its for the best but I will miss the sound of the diesel engine class 172 accelerating. A truly wonderful sound
  • The one disappointing thing is that TfL did not convince NR to be less conservative on how long it takes to do the work. On main lines like Great Western they are doing far more work with closures more like 5 or 6 weeks rather than 9 months. It's a bit like getting the builder around your house and then finding just one guy doing all the work rather than a small team! Oh well, it will be worth it at the end - just a shame the rail industry is not particularly proactive.
  • @maclondon yeah it definitely could have been done quicker, think TfL were just excited that Network Rail were going to find a scheme which provides a major benefit to TfL services.

The big difference with GWML electrification is that GOBLIN is through an urban area with quite substantial restrictions on night working.
