Why are cut flowers bad for the environment?
I have the pollen allergy you speak of Sutent, I still buy people flowers though. Brightens up the world.
As for wolves, bees and bears the best way to get rid of them is all do to do with honey.
Coax the nectar-stuffed bee outside to make honey, the bear will leave to go eat the honey and the greedy wolf will pull on a red cloak and go join the party, to see if it can get anything out of it.
Huge tracts of land are used only for growing flowers - it strips all the nitrates from the soil, which then have to be replaced by artificial fertilisers. That's before you consider all the pesticides. Dreadful for wildlife and biodiversity in general.
Water consumption is immense and almost every flower you buy will have a massive carbon footprint as only about 8% of cut flowers are grown in the UK. Go to the Flower Market at Vauxhall very early in the morning (where the florists buy their flowers), watch the lorries pull up to unload and ask where the flowers started their journeys.
Most of the roses you buy will have been grown in Nairobi, regfridgerated and flown to Holland where the flower auctions take place, then transported to a wholesaler in the UK for grading or sending to supermarkets. From there, many end up in Vauxhall as that's the UK's largest flower market. People then drive from all over to stock their shops or to buy flowers for weddings, events, Chelsea Flower Show etc. Your flowers are quite old by the time you get them. Some tiny bespoke florists are trying to use only UK flowers but it's hard to get consistent supply and in a world where people want out of season flowers all year round, it's tricky. For example - peonies are in season roughly June -beginning of August but people want them for wedding flowers all year round. Roses don't bloom in the UK in February but what do people want on Valentine's Day?
As with food, attempt to buy seasonal and locally grown flowers, and when there are none from November - February, make do with foliage and berries.
e-mail from planning concerning 8 Lorne Road and the FENCE.
"I have been liaising with the conservation officer and the owner of the above property. Works will soon start to remove the current timber fence/wall and be replaced with a brick wall which is more in keeping with a conservation area. The works should be completed by the end of July 2016"
Still have not managed to get anything from the council concerning what the actual conservation rules are for the Stroud Green area.
Anyone else had any luck ? Maybe a mass asking for them might get them or reveal they don't have any !

Gotcha on the flowers. Back of my mind I knew about some of the air miles etc. but you;re right growing stuff on an industrial scale is bad.
Will still buy them everyone so often, but maybe I should plan ahead more and grow them for my wife instead.

To me can't see whether it includes any affordable/social housing, looks a bit tall on the north side, and on the south side doesn't take the opportunity to sort-out/ absorb the horrible burnt-out refrigerator shop...

Don't think so. Just a swanky new frontage for Steve's offy and the solicitors office above as part of the improvement scheme.
The Clifton terrace one is interesting though - looks like that little 'supermarket' and adjacent smoothy place will become another cafe. Brave time to be opening new business there.
